Early Learning with CVFS

We are now offering early learning in Avon for ages 3-5!

Where Adventure Begins

Cache Valley Forest School is excited to announce our preschool program for the 2024-25 school year.  Modeled after European Forest School philosophy, students will engage with nature in an authentic manner which develops confidence, creativity, wonder, empathy, and natural curiosity. Our program is strongly rooted in play-based education and nurtures children in developing strong social and emotional skills to thrive in the world around them.

Location

Classes will be held in Avon in a dedicated outdoor classroom. Indoor space will be provided during extreme weather.

Days & Time

Students meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 am - 12:00 pm. We will follow a 30 week calendar similar to the local school district from September to May.

Tuition

Tuition $95.00 a month. There is a one-time $50 registration fee.

Class size is capped at 8 students for a 1:4 adult to student ratio.

Daily Rhythm

Open Play

Class begins with open play to invite organic socialization. Students have the opportunity to climb, run, dig, get messy with the mud kitchen, take appropriate risks, and use open-ended materials for creative play.

Welcome Circle

During circle time students will be introduced to natural science concepts  that launch students' exploration in nature.

Guided Adventure

Students will be guided on an outdoor adventure relating to our science lesson, whether that is hunting for mini-beasts, digging for earthworms, or engaging in a scavenger hunt.

Snack

Around mid-morning we gather to share discoveries and enjoy a whole food snack such as vegetables from the garden, or fruit.

Mathematics & Early Literacy

Early literacy and mathematics topics are explored through stories, songs, games, and hands-on activities.

Child-led Exploration

Students are provided time to explore concepts introduced to them on a deeper level through self-led exploration. Children may also take this time to participate in open-play, or a fine-motor skills craft.

Gratitude Gathering

We conclude our day with a Gratitude Gathering where students can share their discoveries and excitements of the day.

Nature is our classroom.

Guided Adventures

Provide an opportunity for group learning and exploration.

Child-led Exploration

Allows children to follow their passions and develop a love of learning.

Open Play

Organically creates opportunities for social and emotional development.

CVFS Director & Lead Teacher

Hi, I'm Christina, the owner and director of Cache Valley Forest School. I was born with an innate love for nature and a reverence for all living things. I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Western Governors University and I'm licensed as a secondary teacher.  With 10 years of teaching experience in Montessori and Project Based Learning charter schools and experience in outdoor education, I have worked with students of all ages and abilities.

My love of herbs, animals, and the natural processes of the world, combined with my knowledge of the value of place-based education led me to create the space and school that I wanted most for my own child.

And so I put my heart and soul into the development and creation of Cache Valley Forest School-- a place where all are welcome and a place where even the city kids (like me) can reconnect with their primitive roots.

Registration for Early Learning in Avon is open!
